Bene

Hello, I’m Bene Spoelders, yoga therapist Specialised in Back Pain and healthy Ageing.

For more than a decade I’ve helped hundreds of people prevent, manage and relieve back pain. I select and adapt the yoga poses, relaxation and breathing techniques that will benefit your health and make a positive difference in your life.

In my search how yoga can relieve or remove different kinds of back pain, I have found that tackling stress levels and promoting overall wellbeing is crucial. Undeniably, these other effects of yoga are essential components of a successful back care programme. My mission is to help you find greater ease in your body, so the rest of your life feels easier too!

My yoga journey began when I was a student, when weekly yoga classes made me feel vibrant and alive again after hours of sitting at a desk. I did not come to yoga with amazing flexibility or acrobatic abilities. In fact, I arrived with quite a bad posture. Over the years, yoga has helped me correct the tendency to hunch my shoulders forward and deal with the slight scoliosis of my spine. Practising yoga has been essential for my physical well being,

Moreover, yoga has created a space and time for myself, to feel more centred and at peace. Throughout the ups and downs of life, a yoga session can make me feel that everything is going to be all right, and that I do have the inner strength to see things through.

TRAINING

In 2003 I started a 2-year teaching training course in “Scaravelli Yoga.” Vanda Scaravelli inspired many yoga students to honour the natural wisdom of the body. Especially through her student Sandra Sabatini I learned to ‘undo’ holding patterns rather than impose on the body. Sandra emphasised the importance of the breath, “grounding” through the feet and releasing the spine. Apart from this slower yoga style, I found inspiration in the dynamic yoga styles of Desikachar and Gary Kraftsow. Equally, I learned from the emphasis on structural alignment by osteopath/yoga teacher Peter Blackaby. Finally, I owe my basic training in yoga therapy for back pain to Robin Monro.

My basic yoga training as well as my own health needs led me to my next training in yoga therapy. In the 2,5-years yoga therapy training with the Biomedical Trust and Yoga Campus in London, I learned in-depth anatomy and physiology, and how yoga can help a wide range of health problems. I was especially eager to learn more about safe yoga for people with back pain. Until recently, I was a member of the staff training yoga teachers at the Yoga Therapy Diploma Course in London.

Do you want to manage your back pain, health and wellbeing with yoga? I am committed to providing a safe and beneficial yoga practice for you!
